Case study

A catalogue with a reliable way back

Make a real collection explorable without losing a reader’s place.

The problem.

A collection of 1,194 entries needs both reliable lookup and room for browsing. A book can appear under several searches and at several positions in a sorted list. Its identity must outlast those changing views.

The working experience.

Search the title, author, subject, language or year; narrow by subject and language; choose an ordering; then follow a book into its record or the Reading Room. Links retain the browsing context and reveal the selected record on return. The full list remains in the page for visitors without JavaScript.

What the evidence supports.

The public catalogue and individual records let a visitor inspect these behaviours directly. Stable book identifiers connect the list, records and Reading Room. Bibliographic fields are published; private notes, tags and reading status are excluded.

This is a website case study. It does not claim a measured improvement in engagement or reading outcomes.
